The Girl Happy acetates - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 29, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Here are four recordings from the soundtrack of the MGM movie Girl Happy (1964). The first two songs were transferred from Memphis Tennessee (Audifon Records, AFNS-67670) from 1982. Wolf Call was taken from the CD From The Bottom of My Heart-volume 2 (Savannah Records, SG 15394) released in 1996.
Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce was mastered from a really low fidelity cassette running at wrong speed. The sound is outrageously bad and I hope that Ernst Jorgensen can locate the original acetates for a future FTD project.
The recording information differs from source to source but Jorgensen and Flynn are the most accurate, see page 129 Reconsider Baby by the Danish JEE-team(Pierian Press, 1986). Slated numbers confuses me with this session, there seems to be many different versions of the same songs transferred to acetate.
Furthermore there´s a sonic similarity between Wolf Call, Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and You´re The Boss (as featured on Elvis Rocks And The Girls Roll), all sound as if they were recorded over the phone. Sam Theaker vividly mentions the use of a hidden Nagra-recorder in his splendid memoirs "Elvis Bootlegs-how I made records for fun, profit and a possible one-to-five". I believe some US Elvis collectors can shed more light on this matter, am I right in my assumption? Acetate-owners should definitely contact Ernst Jorgensen and have him professionally transferring them.
