Matthew 2:3-18

INTRODUCTION: The Days of Herod

NARRATOR:
In Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born...

It ain’t easy ruling these people
But you know that I do with ease
I have four simple words if you stand in my way
And those words are, “Off with your head!” (Ha!)

So lately a rumor's been stirring
The fulfillment of some ancient prophecy

HEROD: Alright boys, you're gonna tell me RIGHT NOW where this so-called ‘Christ’ is to be born!
SCRIBE 1: [Fumbling] Umm... O Great Herod... my sources say... Joppa?
PRIEST 1: Tsa! Never Joppa!
SCRIBE 1: Beersheba? [silence] or Megiddo? [silence]
SCRIBE 2: Your Excellency I'm positive it's Jericho...
PRIEST 2: Wasn’t that place was demolished?
SCRIBE 2: I heard they rebuilt?
SCRIBE 1: Scythopolis? You know, goto Mt. Gilboa, hang a right...
SCRIBE 2: How about Herodium? Just south of Bethlehem...
PRIEST 2: Bethlehem! Now that DOES sound familiar...
PRIEST 1: Here it is! For thus it is written by the prophet:
“But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah… out of you shall come a Ruler
Who will shepherd My people Israel...”
PRIEST 2: Some even say He will be Savior of the World!
HEROD: Enough! Enough!! ENOUGH!!!

See...
It ain't easy ruling these people
And THIS is the thank you I get?
Who needs a savior, when they have ME!
I'm telling you, I don't get no respect!

I'm starting to get angry
(He always gets what he wants)
You wouldn't like me when I'm angry...
(He always gets what he wants)
They don't call me the evil genius of Judea for nothing!

NO ONE threatens MY dynasty!

Let it be known, King Herod has spoken
I will find that child, and I will destroy him!
Even if it means, wiping out an entire generation
