I have had private contact with Herb Hall (in relation to Manfred Selchow´s work & book about Ed Hall). He was a good example about the very moving unsteady life & work with different bands at the same time. In contrast to the rather constant thinking work of several musicians accustomed to us through the discographies Herb was always moving. He had asked me for advertisements from bands he played or subbed when I had studied the negro-presspapers (ANP) 1910-67 sytematically through the late 1970s & `80s I called him proudly by phone "I have found that band you sit in at this date at that venue or theatre" - he brought me back: "no, sorry only just at that date I had gigged with another band". He was the first one (later also bassist Johnny Williams) who told me that he and other musicians never liked to play the week at the famous Apollo Theatre - bad paid for daily rehearsals and two shows without times for a further short job with another band at the same day.
A wonderful piano playing by Sammy Price, the master of blues and boogie.
