The WMD of it's day, the Battleship the Maine blew up in Havana Harbor in 1898 and provided a pretext for the USA to go to war against Spain. This song, first recorded in the 1920s by Red Patterson and his Piedmont Log Rollers, took a comic stance on the affair. I first heard it recorded by Mike Seeger and the New Lost City Ramblers in the early 60s. One of those songs that always seems relevant...
