PAT FLOWERS
Born in 1917 in Detroit, as a teenager pianist Pat Flowers fell under the spell of mighty Fats Waller, and left Motorcity for New York in the late 1930s to be near his mentor. He made his first recordings for US Decca in 1941, and was managed by Waller’s manager following Fats’ death in 1943, and was often recorded thereafter in the company of Fats’ old band - even recording for the same company, RCA Victor, in the late 1940s (although this boogie wasn’t amongst them). Returning to his hometown in 1956, Pat Flowers enjoyed a long retirement and died at home in Detroit on his 83d birthday in 2000.
