Copycat celebrates APC & mourns GYBO with an electro cover of Teddybears "Punkrocker".

"It was the best of times it was the worst of times. The mighty AudioPorn Central turns five, which is spectacular. But yesterday GYBO, the world's #1 forum for mashups, bootlegs and what not, announced that it is shutting down.

Without GYBO, there probably wouldn't have been any AudioPorn Central. There definitely wouldn't have been any bond between me and AudioPorn Central. Because that's where I first hooked up with Simon. Our friendship started there and has developed ever since. Today, Simon's one of my best friends -- and AudioPorn Central is one of my digital homes. I cannot really think of any better way to celebrate the 5 anniversary of APC and the sad demise of GYBO than handing over this present.

It is from a project I started with another GYBO disciple, who coincidentally also now is one of my closest friends thanks to that forum, mashup artist extraordinaire Divide & Kreate. Some 3-4 years back he presented a crazy idea to me. He wanted us to do something with Teddybears' "Punkrocker", a tune that comes in many forms and guises (Hiphopper, Dansbander, and what not). And considering what we were up to, ours was obviously going to be named "Mashupper". I loved the idea and embraced it fully.

D&K had a draft for the lyrics that fit our dodgy shenanigans -- and together we finalized them. After that I had a go at singing them -- and we decided to produce a couple of different versions, at least one each. We also did a number of mash-ups and other hybrids using our lyrics and my vox, and the project swelled to enormous proportions. However, for some reason, we never released it. Who knows, some day we just might. But until then, here's my version of "Mashupper" -- in a video by another great friend from GYBO (& APC), the one and only mr Phil RetroSpector.
