The success of The GRP Recording Company is an American dream come true. Co-founders Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen’s visionary strategy, combining world-class artistry with state-of-the-art recording technology aimed at the sophisticated adult consumer, enabled them to build the most successful contemporary jazz label in the world.



GRP Records evolved from Grusin/Rosen Productions (GRP), which began in 1976. Its productions, including popular albums by vocalist Patti Austin and guitarist Earl Klugh, caught the attention of Arista Records President Clive Davis, who signed the team to a long-term contract to discover and develop new talent. Known as GRP Records, the new label had immediate success with such artists as trumpeter Tom Browne, whose single "Funkin’ for Jamaica" rocketed to number one on the R&B charts, and whose Love Approach album brought GRP its first gold record. Dave Grusin’s Mountain Dance, one of the first digitally recorded albums, reached number one on the jazz charts in 1979.
