Ground Loops In Your Effect's Power Supply - Watch Out! - Video

DESCRIPTION:
It took me six months to discover the extra noise and hum I was introducing into my guitar signal by using that funky daisy chain cord that most power supplies come with. I would be very careful with that cord that could have as many as five outlets connected together. I'm back to using mostly the Boss 9v DC adapters that I bought for each effect. You may not have any problems now but over time, you may find an effect that adds hum when daisy chained with other effects. It happened to me when I received a new fuzz. I thought the fuzz was just inherently noisy, so I played it that way for about six months. Once I eliminated the extra hum, everything started sounding better so it can really affect your tone. Be careful. If you think your board is too noisy, troubleshoot it by unplugging each effect from your power supply and using the old stand-alone adapter. I have added a link to a good article in Premier Guitar about the subject. http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/Powering_Your_Board

P.S. I have ordered a battery clip cord from Voodoo Labs for my wah- wah that has no DC input jack. That way, I can connect it to my power supply and clip it on to the battery clip inside the wah-wah.
