DESCRIPTION:
Whippoorwills
when the night was dark as it was still
sang their notes in threes
quick and bright and I agreed
it was farewell
not a bitter end nor alarming bell
just how these things go
when it grows late, I do suppose
young mockingbirds
presence known and always heard
will keep on keeping on
from sun to sun, from dusk ’til dawn
it’s all theirs now
what time and luck and love allows
will show how it will be
perhaps some will return to me

through a simple swan song
one to hold, one to learn
by nature made strong
there at the start and returning home

one to learn, one to hold
from an old soul whose world was sold out
yet still found peace anyway
restored to health in a kind of child’s play

in morning light
with jays at play, dewdrops, and sprites
and other things that won’t exist
to a stubborn mind that will resist
realities
that could be more than what is seen
while working out a plan
just the usual thoughts of a usual man
’til inspiration came ‘round
the calling, chirping, whirling sound
flocked around my head
perched on my shoulder and then this led
to a message loud and clear
whispered sweetly in my ear
the refrain I came upon said

make music for the day from now on
