Hard To Say I'm Sorry (most original piano cover) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Dec 30, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Track 10 - More a tutorial than an actual performance but probably the best and definitely the most original piano cover of this classic.

Why is that so?
German cover artist NEO, a long time David Foster fan plays it by ear and is as close to the original as one could possibly get.

Unlike other Youtube artists NEO includes the tricky trill in the intro with his right hand and the notorious cello cadence with his left. Furthermore he downsizes the melody of the first bridge by playing some of the rather scarcely sprinkled notes from the 1991 David Foster re-release "Rechordings". The famous ritardando in the 2nd chorus is also reproduced with accurate timing followed by the rarely seen bass upeat. To add to that the final chords lead back to the original key of E and insinuate the original transition to the "Chicago 16" album track "Get Away" in the coda, clipping it and concluding in a simple improvised ending.

Most of these original features you won't find in most other prominent Youtube covers of this timeless gem making NEO's rendition somewhat unique. The more experienced among you might notice some tiny timing difficulties in the beginning (before the drums start). That is due to being a first-shot take while playing with an (invisible) metronome to ensure correct BPM speed throughout the song. But most people won't notice. No cuts, edits or audio post-production was done on this video. It is 100% live and all angle changes are merely added for spicing up.

The showcased Yamaha digital grand is serving as a luxury master keyboard triggering a sample of the even more luxurious "Giant", the biggest piano in the world, handcrafted by mastermind David Klavins. The already voluminous piano sound is layered with the much acclaimed DX7 electric piano timbre to emulate David Foster's production style of the 80s.

And finally the playback halfway in is a low-budget home recording with no guitars, just drums (A. Linn), bass (R. Moog) and some subtle pad strings where indispensable.

PS: As singers among you might notice, this upload serves as a half playback for vocalists. Even though I've created the above recording I have no copyright and if I had it I would refrain from not letting you use it, so feel free.

PS: The video was of course edited due to it's multiple angle nature but there are no audio edits! The synchronicity with the playback is achieved by watching a video screen with count-ins throughout the shooting.
