Formed in summer 2004,in Osaka,Japan. Not in 1966,in LONDON nor
Manchester.
I(H.S.Jaybird) thought it was funny to name hardcore band a old
rock band-like name.It was kinda irony.
You know, 99% of hardcore bands
consists of basic Rockn'roll bands'
instruments(ie:singer/guitar/bass/drums).
But its music and attitude is totally different from original Rockn'roll
idea. I picked up name "Gordon Ivy"
from old pro-wrestrer archieve.I thought it sounded like rocknroller name.As
for "Jaybirds",you know,it's taken from Krakdown singer's street
name. The man sung on Token entry album called "Jaybird".
We've influenced from second wave HC
bands in the late 80's such as CRO-MAGS,AGNOSTIC FRONT,CRUMBSUCKERS,LIFE'S
BLOOD,PSYCHIC POSSESSOR,LIFE SENTENCE,PIG CHILDREN.
Or even more older first
wave bands like ANTIDOTE,URBAN WASTE,CIA,DEATHWISH.Even though We are not
straight edge mod band, but bands like YOUTH OF TODAY,GORILLA BISCUITS,STRAIGHT
AHEAD,WIDEAWKE,UNIFORM CHOICE,PUSHED ASIDE,UNITY,PERSONAL
CHOICE,BORDELINE,NATIONS ON FIRE,TURNING POINT,ADMIT YOU'RE
SHIT,MANLIFTING-BANNER
gave big influence to us.
However, you can find more of modern edge especially in our guitar sound
and song structure.Sure,We love to listen good old garage sounding 4 chord
hardcore. But We don't think it natural if We repeat it in 2007.
We've had some line-up changes in
the past few years. The founder of the band is K.S and me,H.S.
I met our current drummer Y.I at his band,NOW OR NEVER show.I was at there to see SILENCE KILLS THE REVOLUTION.
NOW OR NEVER plays kinda melodic hardcore but Y.I told me he'd like to do more of older
style hardcore if he got a chance.
At that
time,We don't have drummer.I remembered Y.I and ask him if he'd like to play
with us.Luckily,he loved our demo then everythings worked best.
I had an
idea to add second guitalist to make sound more fat and add more complex guitar
works.Y.I recruited Y.S,the guitar
player of his band NOW OR NEVER.Now that we are 5 pieces and did few shows on this line-up.
In the begginning of first
2 month of band history,The other guy played the guitar. But We've kicked him off
cos' he was into RANCID.
Then I asked my friend and We got him as guitar
player. The guy played guitar on our first demo. But unfortunatelly he left the
band cos he had to move to Shang-hi,China for his job on Nov.2006.
In 2007, We recorded 9 songs at studio AYou can hear some of the session
on this page and here
We did some shows. We've played with SLAP THE CULTURE,RAGGASKATE,ENCROACHED,CxAxP,REDUCTION
etc.
we are 4 pieces right now and Paddi,Singer from SLAP THE CULTURE helps us as second guitarist.
In 2008,our debut 7" called A MIDNIGHT RAVE WITH THE JAYBIRDS will
be out from Canadian label called CHOKING HAZARD.

Ok, the name and title threw me for a loop, plus the packaging looks like
a garage band but guess what? This is total pissed off Japanese hardcore
punk not unlike LIFES BLOOD (which they cite themselves as aninfluence).
Fucking super high energy pissed off hardcoreawesome. If this is their
first demo we canexpect great things from this band. Don't be fooled by
the name, get this now.

Gordon Ivy and The Jaybirds is the perfect name for a lounge act. I can
see it now. Plush carpets, crushed felt curtains, lots of red colors and
a guy on the microphone with a mustache. This Gordon Ivy and The Jaybirds
is not a lounge act. The only lounge they could get away with playing is
the waiting room to hell. The music is great, but the average lounge crowd
would be ripping their ears off. This band is fast hardcore. Real primal
shit. I would call the singer raw, but we all know how that term is overused.
Lots of political undertones, American Dream Global Nightmare. And some
great lyrics in Breaking Through I feel awkward alone in the hardcore scene,
Kids are deaf, bands are dumb, zines are blind, labels are lame I am not
the crew on your ship of fools I can feel that message. If you can hang
with that, you should peep these dudes. I believe the demo is free, and
all the mp3s are available on their Myspace page. The next time you are
in Osaka, Japan look into this band.

I first heard Gordon
Ivy and The Jaybirds back in August
of 2005. I was obviously psyched on them. Who wouldn't be? Ripping hardcore from
Japan that isn't crusty. Call me a fan.
good stuff. Get into these tunes. Some good times here. Enjoy.
