Snax and The Snackettes perform a brand new track at the Tausend Bar in Berlin. It's called "Something Hot" and is a collaboration between Snax and Lorenz Rhode, soon to be released on Exploited Records.



At age 5, Snax, aka Paul Bonomo, formed an imaginary band with his older brother in the suburbs of Maryland, USA. From these humble beginnings, Snax embarked on a musical journey that would take him from Washington DC to San Francisco to New York and now his current home in Berlin, Germany.



After a two and half year stint in San Fran, where he formed the gay art/punk band Fagbash, Snax eventually found his way to New York’s East Village in 1995. Concentrating on his ‘DJ Snax’ alter ego, he began making house, hip-hop and whatever else took his fancy. A mix tape brought him to the attention of Tara DeLong and the pair set up Bedroom Productions, creating original lo-fi hip hop, whilst Snax cultivated his new live persona. “I used to walk out of my apartment and feel like I was on stage,” comments Snax wryly of the time.



A set of coincidences also led him to the doors of Khan, with whom he would establish the band Captain Comatose. Towards the end of his New York days, Snax was invited by Jim Thirlwell to play keyboards on two tours in Thirlwell’s highly influential band Foetus. The European swing cemented Snax’s decision to leave the increasingly conservative New York, and ultimately the US. Recalls Snax, “It was right after 9/11, George Bush and Mayor Guliani’s crack down on all things fun and I just thought I gotta get out of here.” Snax’s immortalized his dissatisfaction with NYC in his classic track “No Dancing,” which would become the lead off single from his debut LP on Mental Groove, “From The Rocking Chair To The Stage.”

Once comfortably ensconced in Berlin, Snax and Khan toured as the internationally successful Captain Comatose completing two highly rated albums on Playhouse. At the same time, Snax fronted a parallel solo career. After the release of “Rocking Chair” in fall 2004, he embarked on a seven-month, one-man-show tour of Europe that winter. Along the way Snax collaborated with the likes of Jamie Lidell, Kaos, Shapemod, Ianeq, Mocky, Peaches and Soffy O, producing several diverse sides on even more diverse labels (see discography below).



Released in fall 2006 on TNT/Four Music, Snax’s second long-playing album ‘Love Pollution’ and the preceding 12” ‘Immer So’ further developed Snax’s song-writing, as well as showcasing his skills on the guitar, drums and keys. “There’s a bit more of a story with ‘Love Pollution’” states Snax. “Its about love, loss, bitchiness and finally redemption. ‘Pollution’ transcends from electronics to more acoustic elements with consummate ease, so it’s no surprise that Snax formed a new live band, The Love Pollution, to tour the album with.



The following single, ‘Honeymoon’s Over,’ featuring a remix by Konrad Black, was hailed by many as the anthem of Summer 2007; appearing on the Top 10 lists of Ms. Kitten, Tiefscharz, Ewan Pierson, Troy Pierce, Beatport and more.



That year, Snax performed everywhere from the US (supporting Jamie Lidell), to Europe, Istanbul and a winter swing through Australia. Come springtime, Snax was slotted as the support act for The Scissor Sisters during their tour of Europe. Scissors front man Jake Shears concluded that Snax is “a one man fro freak show not to be missed.”



Spring 2008 saw the release of the “Trouble” EP on UK’s defDrive imprint. Recorded almost entirely by Snax in his basement studio, the four-track collection was a return to Snax’s electronic funk roots. On the horizon in 2009 is a remix package of the EP, entitled “Out Of Trouble”, with reworks by Peaches vs. Shapemod, Gus Gus, Crazy P and more, plus a new 12inch with Italy’s NU Frequency. Finally, expect a brand new Snax LP this year called “Special Guest Star”, and featuring collabs with, among others, Jamie Lidell, Eric D. Clark, and G. Rizo.

Since Snax was always very influenced by the dynamic live music of Washington D.C.’s Go-Go scene, its no surprise that his shows are a mixture of provocation, sleaze and fun. He casts himself as prime minister of what has been dubbed by one French review as “Fist-Funk.” Using his body, rhythm and soul, Snax is a natural born performer, challenging his audience to interact with him completely.



On top of live shows, over the past year Snax has re-emerged as DJ Snax, spinning everywhere from Bogota, Montreal, Moscow, Melbourne, Tel Aviv and of course Berlin. Snax’s DJ sets cover a wide range, weather you’re looking for eclectic bedroom style DJing, or floor filling four to the floor. Plus, never without his trusty microphone, Snax may dedicate a track to you and even sing a song or two. A recent set in Snax’s hometown prompted Mike Vamp from Martini Bros. to declare, “Snax is the funkiest DJ in Berlin!”
