A short improvised performance by Gingger Shankar, celebrated musician, film composer and documentarian whose film "Nari," a love letter to her mother and grandmother, commemorates the lives of women who created without expecting recognition and who played very traditional roles in their family while changing the musical world through collaborations with George Harrison and Ravi Shankar.
A living testament to their creativity, Gingger continues their artistic expression as a master of the double violin, one of only two in existence, which condenses all the string instruments in an orchestra down to one performer.
The weirdest thing?
In the speech that preceded the short performance all great Indian musicians were mentioned, except for her uncle L. Shankar (or Shenkar, as he is known today), who as far as I know is in fact the inventor and or at least designer of the double violin…
