Celebration and reflection between Christmas and New Year’s Day, in good German tradition, with the Konrad Koselleck Big Band featuring singer Sanem Kalfa and guitarist/violinist George Dumitriu.

In Germany the period between Christmas and New Year’s Eve is dubbed ‘Zwischen den Jahren’ and is considered a time for reflection as well as celebration. For the Konrad Koselleck Big Band it’s a great time for a concert in that spirit: ‘For this concert influences from the Orient, Occident and the American continent come together with melancholic melodies or propulsive rhythms to call on the sun to let its light shine on the earth for a longer time again’, says the German-Dutch band leader.

Special guests are singer Sanem Kalfa and George Dumitriu. Because they have known each other for years, voice and instrument seem to have been merged into one. Jazz and world music come together in their unique, flexible style of playing.

Sanem Kalfa (first prize in the combines her Montreux Jazz Festival for Jazz Voice in 2010) combines jazz with her Anatolian background, creating her own unique style. George Dumitriu grew up in Romania and as a jazz guitarist he stays true to his roots. Alongside guitar he plays violin. The Konrad Koselleck Big Band is something else, continuously searching for collaboration with the most diverse musicians from jazz, cabaret and many other areas.

‘Koselleck has a keen sense of atmosphere, he knows when to slow down or fire up the band... the conviction of an ecstatic big band is phenomenal’ (de Volkskrant).
