Itagij (with Melanie Kistler)
2015
Sound performance, 23 min, guitar, computer, six amplifiers, TV
My composition 'Itagij' has a Morse code, which is audible throughout the piece. The name is an abbreviation for 'I trapped a ghost in a jar' and is inspired by an ebay auction in which a spirit in a jar was offered for sale. The used Morse code was generated from the description text of this auction.
The six amplifiers played six voices of the composition and they were positioned to take advantage of the acoustics of the terrace to make the sound audible everywhere.
Melanie Kistler performed the auction text at the same time in Vienna. This was aired live on a TV in Zurich. The live audio of the performance and an interview about the piece were broadcasted live on the radio ‘radioindustrie.ch’.
