Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com, you've taken a step back in time, courtesy of the Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face Mini, from Dunlop. In 1969 and 1970, Jimi Hendrix appeared on stage with a new Fuzz Face, with a red enclosure and white knobs. By all accounts, this was not a normal Fuzz Face, it was much more aggressive. The pedal is long gone, but the tone scientists at Dunlop have painstakingly recreated it from listening to these recordings for hours on end. After analyzing the tones, Dunlop narrowed this sound down to a variant on the Octavio circuit that eliminates the upper octave from the mix, resulting in a biting, raspy tone. After making several minor tweaks to the circuit, Dunlop's engineers nailed the tone that encapsuled Jimi's sought after live tone. And unlike most Fuzz Faces, the FFM6 has a power jack and an LED indicator. Like all Dunlop pedals, the Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face Mini is engineered and made in the USA with a message of love.
