Phil Lesh & Friends 2000 w/ Branford Marsalis - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 14, 2008
DESCRIPTION:
I did a short Tour w/ Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh in 2000. It was an honor and an amazing experience for me. I had to become familiat with over 70 Dead songs for the month-long outing, which felt like I was back in school cramming for a music final. There was an amazing band of absolutely steller players and I was asked to sing a few tunes during the tour as well. Phil's approach to jamming is very unique. Rather than soloists taking thier turn being a featured soloist, he preferred it when everyone weaved lines around each other at the same time, which can be quite challenging as a steady diet. But I was honored to be asked and excited at the unique music departure. Here I did some trading off with Branford which was a unique opportunity as he was sitting in as a guest just on that evening. Someone sent me this video recently from their archives apologizing because of the poor video quality but it was still a nice souvenir to receive of the experience. This except is from the Beacon Theatre which we played for 6 night while on tour in NYC in April of 2000. Thank you Phil! We love you!
