DESCRIPTION:
Further to my recent selection of six 1920s dance band vocalists, inevitably some were not included. One of those was Fred Douglas.
It therefore seems right that this long standing recording artist should be featured.
If I had to choose one artist I would not expect to sing "Thou swell" it would be Mr. Douglas. However, here he is in October 1929 with this famous Rodgers & Hart song. Though the label gives the impression it was composed by three people.
Joe Morrison only made a few records for Piccadilly. The Forbes-Rust book does not advise there was a Metropole issue of this recording. Nevertheless, here's Fred Douglas with Joe Morrison's band with only the second British dance band version of "Thou swell".
