Russia: Putin discusses expansion of domestic flights with Aeroflot CEO Savelyev - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Russian President Vladimir Putin told the boss of Russia's largest airline that "there should be no place, no region in the Russian Federation, where people cannot fly into or out of", speaking with Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Savelyev in Moscow on Tuesday.

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): "How do you assess the current situation, particularly given the significant changes in the air service market? First, I would like to know about short distance flights, international flights to regular tourist destinations that are not being used today as actively as we would like. Secondly, what are the peculiarities that you see today on the domestic transport market?"

SOT, Vitaly Savelyev, Aeroflot CEO (Russian): "The market has changed, of course, in the sense that passengers have been travelling more within Russia, and we are seeing a certain drop in the number of passengers on our international flights. However, many people are flying within Russia, which has given the Aeroflot Group a 34 percent growth, and this is quite a significant figure; so, we are totally refocusing our operations."

SOT, Vitaly Savelyev, Aeroflot CEO (Russian): "As for the so-called 'flat prices'. Last year we supported this idea, people think about it all differently, many of them believe that it was not a market mechanism, but we saw that the flat prices were in demand, and we decided to keep them for the current year."

SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): "We need to continue this practice. Of course, no one should be undermined in the marketplace, but still: the most important thing that we must ensure is an opportunity for Russian citizens to travel around their own country, and there should be no place, no region in the Russian Federation, where people cannot [easily] fly into or out of [on holiday/business]. Therefore, without a doubt, this practice should be continued."
