John Cage (1912-1992): Five2, for english horn, 2 clarinets, bass clarinet and timpani(1991). Dedicated to Mauricio Kagel on his Sixtieth birthday.

Ives Ensemble.

Every part consists of 5 time-brackets. The bracket structure for all parts is identical and the duration of all brackets is the same, except for number three, which is shorter. The two first time-brackets for the timpani part and the last two for the English horn part are replaced by silences. The other parts contain between 1 and 3 notes in every bracket.
Sustained tones should be played softly, while short ones are to be played loudly.
