Peggy-o (Fennario) - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 11, 2017
DESCRIPTION:
This song has many names and is set into various time frames revolving around wars. It was originally an old Scottish folk song called the "Bonnie lass o' Fyvie", about a troop of Irish dragoons whose captain falls in unrequited love with the local beauty. Bob Dylan recorded it as "Pretty Peggy-o" in 1962 and Joan Baez recorded as "Fennario" in 1963. The Grateful Dead have perhaps the best known version, having covered it hundreds of times from the 70s through the 90s. The Dead's version likely refers to the Civil War, as the captain is buried in Louisiana.

It is performed here by Gregg Miller and friends on open mic night at the Wooden Nickel in Highwood, Illinois. 4.8.17
