Nantucket Sleighride (To Owen Coffin) Bass Cover - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Nantucket Sleighride by Mountain off of their album "Nantucket Sleighride" which was released in 1971.

This is the same sound I used for "5:15" but you can hear the touch of overdrive a little clearer in this one. I'm not at all a fan of distortion/fuzz on bass guitar but I don't think many bassists used it as effectively as Felix Pappalardi did. I'm using a small fraction of the amount of distortion he used. He was full-on fuzz.

I spent more time than I care to admit learning this song as every little riff in between the vocal lines of the verses is different, and while they are fairly simple, it took forever to memorize and put them in order. I just kept returning to the song until they sunk in. I came dangerously close to tabbing them out but, in the end, I got most of them. You can tell the one I missed from the big eye-roll.

The definition of a "Nantucket Sleighride" is pretty interesting if not cruel and the story of poor Owen Coffin, the same.

If I had my choice of a theme song that would play while I walked in slow-motion down the street it would be the riff at 3:05.
