Gwyn Ashton releases new EP - 'Fistful of Blues'
Hot on the heels of his latest album 'Radiogram, UK-based Gwyn Ashton announces his return to the blues with the release of a four track EP 'Fistful of Blues'. A return to the blues sure... but did Ashton ever really leave?

As 'Radiogram' attests, Ashton's foray into rock rarely steps far from a blues core and, in conjunction with his considerable musical collaborations over his more than thirty year career (he's toured with the likes of BB King, Buddy Guy and Robin Trower as well as playing in the Rory Gallagher tribute Band of Friends), his sound and feel are inextricably linked to a blues heart. Ashton has remained tenaciously fresh in a scene which often rewards the generic or homogenised. His blues is fierce, richly layered, and tenaciously nonderivative.

Mixed in New York by Ian Hatton and mastered in LA by Joe Gastwirt 'Fistful of Blues' promises an album sized meal concealed in an EP-sized format. Four tracks of Ashton's angst expressed through his maestro guitar work and a fierce, haunting and raw vocal sound. These tracks are rich, satisfying offerings, not bitesized pieces...
Remaining on the edges of the mainstream, Ashton has nonetheless made a permanent mark in the UK/Europe scene and, with regular forays into the States, deserves to slip into the nooks and crannies of global airplay. As an inveterate live artist, no doubt WHERE his recordings lead, Ashton will follow... Ashton is rarely off the road.

'Fistful of Blues' takes a brief yet satisfying tour into the funk of standard blues themes, lyrically calling on the questions of heartbreak and hope, dark and sexy...always the enticing romance of blues music. Yet, the tracks are inevitably woven around Ashton's unique and distinctive musical trajectories... his guitar sound is loud, confident and consummately individual. 'Fistful of Blues' takes a further stride along the solid ground
set by Ashton's last two albums - 'Two Man Blues Army' and 'Radiogram'.
