Exposed Zipper - The Expedition Quartet plays Marc Mellits - Video
PUBLISHED:  Apr 20, 2012
DESCRIPTION:
Jake Schepps's Expedition Quartet has made a name as an ensemble with an intrepid, imaginative vision for contemporary stringband music. Although we are all students of traditional and progressive bluegrass styles, the Expedition Quartet has stretched beyond those boundaries. In Boulder, Colorado in late 2012 the Expedition Quartet will be premiering a new commission by Marc Mellits, the first of its kind being a contemporary classical work written for 5 piece traditional bluegrass stringband (banjo, mandolin, guitar, violin and bass). The ensemble features Jake Schepps on 5-string banjo, guitarist Grant Gordy (of the legendary David Grisman Quintet), Matt Flinner on mandolin, 5-string violinist Enion Pelta-Tiller, and former Punch Brother bassist Greg Garrison.
