"Another fabulous collection of rare gospel (including some previously unissued) compiled by indefatigable gospel researcher Opal Louis Nations - this time focusing on the rich gospel scene in LOs Angeles from the late 40s through the early 60s. Just about all making its first appearance on CD.
The emphasis is on quartet singing and while most of the artists will be unfamiliar to all but the most dedicated collector the musical standard is consistently superb.
There are some familiar artists with unfamiliar titles - the Mighty Clouds Of Joy with Willie Joe Ligon are featured on an early side for Elko whe they were The Sensational Clouds Of Joy, The 5 Blind Boys Of Alabama are featured on a rare side for Andex This Friend Jesus, the wonderful Soul Stirrers are featured on one of their more obscure SAR sides with lead vocals by James Phelps and Wynona Carr is featured with her Gospel Singers on an unissued audtion recording of Lord Make My Enemies Leave Me Alone.

Other artists include The Stars Of Bethlehem, Melody Kings, Click Clocks, Flowers Of Joy (a fabulous version of All Of My Appointed Time), Sister Elizabeth Phillips (fine vocals with some Rosetta Tharpe styled guitar backup), Rev. Steward & Family (a cover of Rev. Utah Smith's version of Two Wings with an almost perfect copy of Smith's guitar playing!), Pilgrim Travelers (a rare side cut for Greenwood in the late 40s), The Womack Brothers (with lead by Bobby Womack), The (Sweet) Singing Cavaliers, Flying Eagle Spiritual Singers, The Inspirational Souls, Kansas City Gospel Singers (the lovely unissued acapella I Know The Lord), The Imperial Church Of Christ A-capella Chorus (a gorgeous rendition of Blessed Assurance), The Gospel Pearls With Bessie Griffin, Charles Johnson & The Gospel Consolators, Ever Ready Gospel Singers (fabulous acapella version of This Heart Of Mine), Los Angeles Wonders, West Coast Jubilees and many more. Music is consistently superb, sound quality is generally excellent and there are brief notes by Opal. This is a limited edition so order soon to be sure of getting this outstanding collection.
