Elvis Took Acid (ETA) is an aggressive four-piece from Dallas, Texas.
It can be difficult to describe the genre of ETA’s sound, although most
would consider them a punk band because of the vocals and speed at
which they play, bassist Viktor Bruschkopf insists that “ETA sounds
different from the rest of mainstream rock. It’s not punk,
but maybe it’s what punk should be”.
He’s probably right, but as an audience member you can’t help but
notice some similarities to classic punk bands. Lead signer, Dik’s
vocals, stage presence and facial expressions seem like re-imagined
Billie Joe Armstrong or better yet, Johnny Rotten. Johnny was quoted
as saying, “Sometimes the most positive thing you can be in a boring
society is absolutely negative.”
Elvis Took Acid consumes your boredom and suffocates it with angst. Just listen to Year 2000 or their remarkable Johnny
Cash cover song, Folsom Prison Blues and you’ll realize that this band aims to entertain.
They thrive off of the sweat and enjoyment of their audience. The more you like it, the harder they’ll work to keep you
entertained. With a look and feel that is completely their own it’s no surprise that they have a mixed fan base. Expect to
see roller-derby girls, punks, metal-heads, bikers, potheads, jocks and even dads in the crowd.
Their set is tight. The band is experienced and well rehearsed. With Johnny Trashpockets killing it on guitar and Philly the
kid on drums, ETA comes across as a loud but close-knit foursome too big to remain unsigned.
