#14 Regard des Anges, "Gaze of The Angels", - is in five strophes evoking in their course a "flickering of flames," athletic angels blowing into "immense brass instruments", "bird song (especially the blackbird)," and "the stupefaction of the Angels." Pervasive throughout is the Theme of Chords. As performed live during a complete two hour performance of the entire work by Eric Huebner at the 2010 Ojai Music Festival. The Santa Barbara independent said "On Saturday at 11 a.m., the pianist Eric Huebner gave an outstanding performance of Messiaen's titanic Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus. This modern masterpiece continues to grow in interest and grandeur as more pianists rise to its considerable challenges. The compositional achievement—more than two hours of solo piano music without repetition or cliché—is without peer in 20th century music, and that is saying quite a lot." ---
