Emily Lacy & Henry Wolfe "Henry Lee" - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 04, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
Collected by Frank James Child, this ballad is based on traditional folk song "Young Hunting," and is its most famous incarnation. The theme of the original describes a philandering man who tells his woman, possibly the mother of his child, that he's in love with his beautiful mistress. Filled with raging jealousy, the scorned woman gets him drunk, kisses him goodbye and stabs him to death. In the "Henry Lee" version, she rallies up the townswomen to help her throw him in a well and scares off a little bird.

Emily Lacy & Henry Wolfe performed "Henry Lee" at The New Los Angeles Folk Festival's MURDER BALLADS event for Halloween. Oct 26, 2010, at the Echoplex.
