The flip side of, Mr. Five By Five" - Ella Mae Morse was a superb singer, with a great sense of timing, rhythm, & musical feel. Ella was better than many female singers from the 1940's and yet, probably the least remembered today. Although she had sung briefly with Jimmy Dorsey, it was Johnny Mercer & Capitol Records who really discovered Ella Mae Morse for the musical gem that she really was . Band leader, Freddie Slack, known for his "Boogie Woogie" piano, first hit the "big time" as part of another great band which included, trombonist ~Will Bradley & drummer~ Ray McKinley.
