Rather than sit on their butts waiting for some mystical guru from a record company to discover them, Eat This set about recording their own songs and putting a CD together themselves. Without the might of a Major Minor or Indie Record Label the band, driven by Cliff Wright, has achieved and put together a stunning collection of well played original songs. The Eat This Debut CD entitled 'The Number One Album' available through their website www.eatthis.net or by download through i-Tunes and most download outlets. You can hear a new song 'Walkaway' not on the album/CD Great review for this album in Classic Rock issue 108. The debut CD received 8 out of 10 in the Classic Rock ratings. Here's the review by Neil Jeffries.
Eat This:'The Number One Album'
An Unexpected Gem. Eat!!
This is ostensibly Cliff (Dirty Strangers) Wright with former 'Gillan' engineer/soundman Chas Watkins on Bass - and a cast of dozens of mutual friends. Together they have forged an album of great happy-go-lucky material that turns a love of The Beatles and The Who into something like a Pete Townshend solo album circa Empty Glass.
Foremost among the guests are Bernie Tormé ('Gillan' and 'Ossie Osbourne') - Co producer and purveyor of a mental guitar solo on Tattered & Torn -
Colin Towns - keyboards, Pedal steel BJ Cole. But there is also some terrific drumming from Ian Thomas, Dave Ruffy & Robin Guy, magnificent Hammond organ playing from Scott Mulvey and even some gaelic flavours courtesy of Paul Brennan. Phil Spalding plays lead guitar on 'What'.
Cold Coffee & Tears features a co-lead vocal from Angie Brown. There are excellent guitar solo's from Paul Fox formerly of The Ruts and latterly The Dirty Strangers. The album is beautifully recorded and excellently played, it's blessed with songs that are easily remembered.
Very Good!! Neil Jeffries
Not included for download but on the CD is the Beatles classic 'Norwegian Wood' (this bird has flown) by John Lennon & Paul McCartney.
