Composer Suzannah Doyle shows you the basic secrets to what gives Ragtime piano it's feel. In this video (Part 1), she shows you how to create an easy Ragtime version of a piano song, by understanding what the left hand part in a Ragtime song typically does, what the right hand does, how to make it even easier by thinking in chords, and how the time signature determines the pulse of a the Ragtime feel. Hint: One hand plays even and steady, while the other plays in a syncopated (off the main beat) manner.

(NOTE: In part 2, we will take this a step further and add fancy 2-handed intros, advanced left hand techniques and additional harmonies to make a more intricate Ragtime style.)
