After the excellent audience and critic recognition for their latest album Morning Cluster, East Rodeo are moving towards a new chapter in their discography. They do that together with three woodwind players coming from the Italian collective El Gallo Rojo, which features Santimone himself and already co-produced Morning Cluster. Bittolo Bon, Bigoni and Scardino have been collaborating for ages, refining their compositional and performing skills in their respective projects as leaders (Scardino's Orange Room, Bigoni's On Dog) and in the collective trio Crisco 3.
The encounter will take place during a residency at the Student Centre in Zagreb, produced by Muzički salon (Music Hall). During the residency, which will be supported by photo and video shoots, East Rodeo will experiment the extended lineup and activate a process of collective composition and improvisation over a significant two-weeks stay. This is a well
established practice for East Rodeo (grounded in the best rock tradition), but sharing it with jazz-oriented musicians, all composers and improvisers hard to label, is an uncommon experiment. It is a unique chance to cross two scenes, the jazz and improvised music scene and the avant-rock scene, that otherwise aren't sharing paths in Italy and Croatia. The new songs that will spring from this will be recorded in the studio and will make the new album. At the same time, the old East Rodeo repertoire will be rearranged and explored live on May 24th at Zedno Uho Festival in Zagreb and on May 25th at the Pula Castle (and will be as well recorded and featured in a live album which will be released before the studio album).
