Bellagio Fountains were engeneered by WET Design. They are built in a 3,6 ha manmade lake, in front of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, filled with 83.270.000 liters of water, pumped in it from a drilled well, and it is estimated it was spent US$ 75 million to build.
A few seconds before the show starts the lights illuminating Bellagio turn their color to purple hue, or, red-white-blue, depending on the music which is going to be performed, and the nozzles break the water surface.
Four types of nozzles are used to get the various effects. More specifically the nozzles used are:
Oarsmen - they have a full range of spherical motion;
Shooters - they shoot water upwards at 120 psi (pressure square inch);
Super Shooters - they send a 250 psi water blast as high as 73 meters upwards in the air;
Extreme Shooters - they were added in 2005 and they send a 500 psi water blast as high as 140 meters upward in the air, sparingly used in each show because it takes time for enough pressure to build up.
Last, but not the least, there are the "foggers". They collect water and put it under enormous pressure turning it into a fine mist that looks like fog. They are strong enough to make Paris Las Vegas across the street look like London in a foggy day, anytime anyone wants.
The fountains performance is computer controlled, so, the computer sets the power of the water blast according to the power of the wind, scaling the power down in case of wind, or cancelling the show in case of very strong wind.
Nevertheless, on October 15, 1998, it was the day of the black tie opening cerimonies, despite the whipping wind, the fountains were run at full blast......
