We met up with "Cashew" and the rest of the EWP gang after battling a bit of dodgers game traffic (and parking) at the self proclaimed "Eaglet Manor," a charming abode perched on a hillside in Solano Canyon. The night before they'd played at the New Los Angeles Folk Festival, and later that day were set to play down the street at Origami Vinyl, so needless to say quite busy these days. Of course this particular Sunday would happen to be one of the few (possibly the only?) actual hot days in an uncharacteristically mild summer (you can actually hear the ceiling fan going if you listen carefully).

Eagle Winged Palace is a bit of a strange musical concoction (I think I've seen the term "folk-noir" thrown around, but it might be more "folklore" than "folk," really), they seem to hinge somewhere between a sixties folk sing-along and an odd sort of mythic narrative. But there is definitely an impressive ensemble element going on here, with beautiful and carefully layered five-part vocal harmonies that really shine, particularly in those subtle moments of wit and charm that sneak in beneath the serious facade.
