Jacqueline du Pré ~ Haydn Cello Concerto in C - Barenboim/ ECO - REMASTERED - Video
PUBLISHED:  Mar 28, 2015
DESCRIPTION:
EMI recording - REMASTERED and REVISED
The late, gifted cellist Jaqueline du Pre Du was most famous for her iconic recording of Elgar's Cello Concerto in E Minor, her interpretation of which has been described as "definitive" and "legendary. Here she plays her late 1960's recording of Haydn's Cello Concerto in C, conducted by Daniel Barenboim and the English Chamber Orchestra.
The intuitive listener will notice Du Pre's style on this piece is somewhat less forceful or pronounced on certain passages, particularly in the last movement as compared to other popular performers of this work. Of particular interest is with Rostropovich, who certainly takes a more authoritative stance in his approach not to mention a much more musically intricate cadenza in the first movement.
