PUBLISHED:  Jul 06, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
Video excerpt from the "group version" premier of Duane Pitre's "Feel Free" composition, which took place on May 30th, 2010 at Zebulon in Brooklyn, NY.

Duane Pitre's "Feel Free" is a new work-in-progress that is based around pre-recorded, guitar string harmonics tuned in Just Intonation. The harmonics are randomized in their order of play via a computer program, with the result touching on the sporadic, yet orderly nature of wind chimes. These randomized harmonics are the core of the piece, and the program can run on its own as an installation, be carried out as a solo performance (by the composer) with the addition of a justly tuned simple-timbre synth, or made into an group performance with the augmentation of an array of acoustic instrumentation such as harp, violin, cello, hammered dulcimer, etc.

Performers for this 05.30.10 performance were:

Duane Pitre -- simple-timbre synth / controllers / computer
Jesse Sparhawk -- harp
Jim Altieri -- violin
James Ilgenfritz -- double bass
Jessie Marino -- cello
Shannon Fields -- hammered dulcimer
