Kumari Kandam - குமரிக்கண்டம்

Kumari Kandam ou encore Kumai Nadu est un continent légendaire englouti au sud de Kanyakumari, à l'extrémité de l'Inde. Kumari Kandam a souvent été comparée et assimilée à la Lémurie.

D'après la tradition Tamil, les Dravidiens seraient à l'origine venus de Kumarikhandam, une île submergée au sud de l'Inde. Des épopées telles que Shilappadikaram et Manimekhalai décrivent la cité engloutie de Puhar. Selon la légende, il y avait deux principales rivières sur Kumari Kandam, le Pagliyaru et la Rivière Kumari. Il y avait également des montagnes. Le premier Sangam Tamil, Idai Sangam, est censé être sur le continent lémurien. Ce continent était administré en 7 ou 49 (7x7) régions. Le continent aurait été victime du kadatkol, une catastrophe décrite comme l'océan dévorant la terre, ce que les scientifiques, comme le Dr. A. Velupillai, rapprochent avec un tsunami. Le Sri Lanka, l'Australie comme Madagascar, feraient partie de ce continent disparu.

Le tamoul, à l'inverse des autres langues classiques indiennes, ne fait pas partie des langues indo-européennes, ce qui pourrait corroborer la théorie d'une origine étrangère.

À Mahabalipuram, près de Chennai, des ruines submergées ont été trouvées dans l'Océan Indien.
