The long and very rambling Downtrodn Story by Daeron.

Aaron and I became obsessed with punk rock in 1994 at the tender age of 14. We knew we wanted to start a band so we got some instruments and learned how to play. In 1995 we got a highschool friend named Mike Veres to play bass. We jammed in Mike’s basement and at friends’ parties playing cover songs from our favorite bands and the few originals we had. The name Downtrodn was decided upon on the way to our first real show in 1996 and came from the first song Aaron and I wrote together. We decided that the correct spelling of the word “downtrodden” was too long so we hacked off a couple of letters. We were very high at the time.

In 1997 Mike left the band to go to college which prompted a two year hiatus for the band during which we briefly joined our friends Ken Moss and Matt Pagani of Going Out of Business and renamed the band Down and Out. Needless to say, that band didn’t work out but we did acquire a new bassist in Ken. We brought Aaron’s jamming and drinking buddy Luke “Mental Kase” Smith into the fold as a second guitar player and Downtrodn was reborn in late 1999, which we consider the official beginning of the band.

Mental Kase was still under 18 and bars wouldn’t let us in so we began playing guerrilla shows at random park shelters outside the city limits. We played any show offered to us including biker parties, benefits, porches, fields, etc. We made a few basement demos and recorded our first cd/ep entitled “Riot” in the spring of 2000. Shortly thereafter Mental Kase left the band to go to jail. Ken, Aaron, and I moved to Columbus and decided to carry on as a three piece. Since then we’ve recorded two more eps “Social Skar”2001 “Ants On The Hill”2003 and one full length album “Missing In Distraction”2005 which we released on Pitfall Records, a newborn fledgling label that Aaron and I run. We’re still playing everywhere and anywhere with four east coast/midwest tours, one full U.S. tour, and countless regional weekend tours under our belt. We’re currently writing and demoing songs for a new album which already promises to be a new evolution for the band and our best work yet.
