PUBLISHED:  Aug 30, 2010
DESCRIPTION:
Douglas Unger of Peninsula, Ohio is a retired Professor of Fine Art from Kent State University. He has been building banjos for 40 years and is recognized as the greatest builder ever of open back style banjos. His pearl engraving is finer than any of the old masters. He makes a banjo that can be treasured for a lifetime. This instrument is a custom "electric" style harkening back to the Fairbanks banjos of the last century. It features a new rim with perfect reproduction hardware and the classic, "scalloped" Whyte Laydie tonering. The mahogany neck is typically, "beefy" to the hand with an easy to play, 26" scale. The Cole style "boat" heel is carved in the pattern of banjos from the 1890s. The ebony fingerboard is slightly radiused. It is embellished with richly engraved, mother of pearl including a classic dogwood flower in the peghead that is outlined in abalone. This is a great player outfitted with original 1920s Planetary tuners. Only $3995. Buy banjo here: http://bernunzio.com/products/1015522
