Here’s your winter, New Year’s Eve and BPM Festival certainty rolled into one, thanks to their next discovery capitalising in Madrid via Lisbon.

Gonçalo gives your grey cells a Christmas treat. Massive early support has come from Carl Cox, who has made it a go-to groove in numerous sets since using it to blow October’s closing party at Space Ibiza wide open. Nic Fanciulli, Uner and Technasia have all backed the former Royal Academy of Music student and Dreambeach Villaricos resident, who has shared stages with The Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers, Faithless, Tiësto and Orbital, and flicked cross-faders throughout Berlin, Amsterdam, London and the length and breadth of Spain and Portugal.

Tropically positioned house beats, with percussion having Gonçalo slalom through a busy market square to where the action is, are at the front of ‘Mental Help’ imploring you to leave the world behind. In the track’s playmaker role is a rising, bassy riff, abiding by the rule of all good dance music hooks and grabbing hold of you with the minimum of fuss, helping mix the vibe between warm and stern. A soulful vocal wades through heat haze and acid waves acting as shooting stars, gaining a spectral hold over a track knowing exactly the right time to strike and flourish.

And when it does, Gonçalo will have you scrambling for your passports there and then. The accompanying dub version makes the hands-raising breakdown its own, able to warm up the frostiest of dancefloors and iciest of arenas on the spot.
