Mediterranean Songs:

The oriental music of our Arab and Beduin neighbors, as well as the Greek music, influenced the Hebrew music from its very beginnings. The search for producing original and authentic Israel music lead many compositors (also those that came to Israel from Eastern Europe -- like Yedidya Admon or Moshe Wilenski- or many Israeli-born compositors too, like David Zahavi or Emanuel Zamir), to write and compose under an oriental influence, inspired by ancient Bible scenery, the shepherds way of life, the "debka" dancing and village lifestyle.
During the 60's the oriental music was identified with the Arab enemy and was almost not heard over the radio nor on public performances.
