The story of The Sardinia Tapes
In summer 2016 five musicians got together on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Sardinia. Performing together for a long time, as Djabe & Steve Hackett, but never get all together for a recording session in the same room – just on a stage. They, loving each other’s play, decided to set up a special recording studio in North Sardinia, near the famous medieval church of Nostra Signora di Tergu. Possibly this was the first time the priest’s house became a recording studio. The breathtaking landscape, the warm weather, the calm mood inspired the musicians to create new music. During the sessions’ three days they started and finished every day with tasty jamming. Between the jams, they explored the surroundings of beautiful Castelsardo and Sassari. Reflecting to the special atmosphere they recorded onto 24 track analogue tapes. Music recorded by long time sound engineer of Steve Hackett, Ben Fenner. The musicians Steve Hackett (guitar), Gulli Briem (drums, percussion), Tamás Barabás (bass, vocal, guitar, percussion, synth), Áron Koós-Hutás (trumpet) and Attila Égerházi (guitar, guitar synth, percussion) enjoyed the recording process very much and found the result worthy to move on further. Therefore Attila and Tamás got together to work out the concept, and Tamás composed and produced a complete album from these unique sessions. The result is so special, and hopefully the listeners also experience the fantastic atmosphere that inspired the music and caught on tapes. They christened the album Life Is A Journey!
