DESCRIPTION:
This is a video in memory of some wonderful people who gave many other a lot of pleasure and laughs - PLEASE click to expand and read the full write up, it is integral to the video. Potter's Holiday Camp is now just a memory - some fading photographs, some mentions on memories forums and the one vinyl which was made in 1972. I must stress that Potter's Holiday Camp, although it doesn't exist as in the history books it has in fact metamorphosed, thanks to Brian and Judy Potter, into the most amazing "Potters Leisure Resort".... it really is one of the best resorts in Europe - if not the best. It now features top stars, hosts the World Indoor Bowls Championships, has superb shows and the most amazing facilities.

This video goes well before today - back to 1972 - over 40 years ago. Mr Hector Potter, the boss (a lovely man to work for) and his wife, Vera, decided to be trendsetting by having a record made featuring the entertainment team. This was made by a mobile recording van with basic facilities. REMEMBER all you young ones - there was no such thing as "digital" recording or mastering. You got one take and that was it - mistakes, hesitations and deviations stayed in for all time.

The entertainment team was a very small number of people, a tight knitted group organised by Geof Parsons and his lovely wife Eve (read his autobiography "Only one "f" in Geof" which feature an awful lot of Potter's memories --- he worked there a long time). The rest of the team comprised of Andy Feet ( Phil Loxton); Colin Jones and my ex-wife and I, known as Stuart and Alma. A total team of six!!! Andy was an amazing comic and singer who was frenetic both on stage and off.... he was also a good friend who was responsible for Alma and I leaving Aberdeen to join Potters.

I have only just found this record and it has been very difficult as a silver surfer to computerise it for Youtube but it was a vital project for me because apart from not knowing if Colin Jones is still alive or not, everyone else on the disc is now deceased. If you consider there was only 1,000 records pressed and they all sold out within a couple of weeks.... that a lot of the people who bought that record 40 years ago have now passed on.... moving house, damage etc,,,, I would doubt that there are any other copies available anywhere.... hence the urgency before the remnants of these entertainers have gone forever..

The record was conceived as a showcase for the fun to be had on holiday..... please remember that it is a product of it's time and obviously sounds very dated - just the Lowry organ sound is enough to know that. BUT it isn't the songs, it isn.t the notes nor words, it is the talent and energy of the team ---- and in those days everyone worked almost 18 hours a day and loved every minute of it, and unlike the main name holiday camp group, we were extremely well treated and loved by management and holiday makers alike.

THIS Is AN ONGOING project - This is only one side of the record - it was single size vinyl but recorded at 331/3 rpm hence about 15-20 minutes in total. I hope to be uploading the other side and adding to the photos over time as I have a small stash of Alma and I doing such things as donkey rides for children--- I have forgotten the donkeys name but it was the stubbornist animal I have ever known.... it was touch and go if the children managed to get 5 yards of a ride.
