DESCRIPTION:
"A Nightmare On My Street" was the third single from hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's second studio album, "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper". The song became a crossover hit in the U.S., reaching #15 on the Billboard Hot 100. "A Nightmare On My Street" showcased a fictional confrontation with movie villain Freddy Krueger. The song was considered for inclusion in 1988's "A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master", but it didn't make the cut. The song was released as a single by Jive Records in early 1988 on vinyl and audio cassette tape, coinciding with the release of "The Dream Master". New Line Cinema, the studio responsible for the "Nightmare" movies, was not pleased. A video allegedly shot for the single was buried, and a disclaimer was hastily included on pressings of the album indicating that the record was not officially affiliated with any of the "Nightmare" films. As a result, some original pressings of the album contain a disclaimer sticker stating the song is "not part of the soundtrack . . . and is not authorized, licensed or affiliated with the 'Nightmare On Elm Street' films". Ironically, Jive Records ended up releasing the soundtrack to the next film in the series, "The Dream Child". "He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper" was the second studio album by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. The album's first single, "Parents Just Don't Understand", won the first Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance. In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source magazine's 100 Best Rap Albums. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince is a hip-hop duo from West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Vocalist Will Smith (aka The Fresh Prince) met Jeff Townes (aka DJ Jazzy Jeff) while trying to make a name for himself in West Philadelphia's local hip-hop scene. After joining forces with Clarence Holmes (aka Ready Rock C), the team members became local celebrities. Holmes left the group in 1990, and later sued it in 1999. Will Smith and Jeff Townes are still friends and claim that they never split up, having made songs under Smith's solo performer credit since he became a successful Hollywood film and television actor. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince have sold over 5.5 million albums in the United States. This channel is dedicated to all the great rap music from back in the day.
