Live From The Drumset: DJ DEZ

Andres aka DJ Dez was born in Detroit to Cuban parents, and raised partly in South-Central LA, Andres has absorbed a vast and varied milieu of influences, beginning at age 3 when he received his first set of percussion drums. California is where he learned to DJ in 1989. Andres' family then moved back to Detroit while he was in his mid-teens and he soon began working at the uber-popular Buy-Rite Records on 7 Mile Rd with co-worker Kenny Dixon Jr.

His residency at The Rhythm Kitchen connected him to recording time at Amp Fiddler's home studio, where he met Jay Dee of Slum Village. After enjoying much international success as a new member of Slum Village and their side-group, Ghost Town, DJ Dez then found himself spinning on The Chappelle Show with Slum. Yet, the Andres persona was next hard at work producing his first full-length solo album under the guidance and encouragement of long-time big brother Kenny Dixon Jr. Dixon offered his own label to Andres as a vehicle to publish his own production and share his percussive talents as a traditional Cuban drummer. Citing major inspiration from artists as diverse as James Brown, Kraftwerk, and the Cuban group, Irakere??» balance.
