DESCRIPTION: A 1971 gem from the mighty back catalogue of Jewel records. This was the b-side of the more uptempo "Bad Habit" which I don't like so much. "Heap of People" takes a little while to hit its stride but is a rowsing, very churchy number with a strange but powerful ending. Nice bluesy guitar too.
Dee Brown was the same singer who duetted with Lola Grant. He was originally Walter D. Brown.
Joe Tex uses a similar phrase in his song "Heap See, Few Know" so I'm assuming that this is either southern wisdom or an allusion to a gospel song.
