Sad Song #5 -- "Gone Without Goodbye" by Brian Littrell

I'm not sure how many songs there are about terrorism. It hasn't been a hot topic of discussion until the last two decades. But this song is so relevant to the world we live in right now that it really cuts deep. It focuses on the victims of terrorism. The first reference is an obvious reference to the World Trade Center on 9/11, but it's the second reference to a terrorist bombing in a populated public place that really seems to wreck my soul. It's that one line -- "I watched the tears pour down a father's last attempt of being a rational man." Can you imagine your little girl carrying around her doll and falling victim to something as cowardly and unnecessary as terrorism? The thought of such a thing conjures up a pain that is unthinkable. I was pleased when the USA killed Bin Laden. But not because I think death should be celebrated. Rather, there were all those families who lost loved ones on 9/11, and those loved ones were gone without goodbye. They deserved the closure of justice that they never got to have prior to his death. Terrorism. It's all just senseless jealousy as far as I'm concerned.
