Dead Aim was formed in Virginia Beach in late 1983 by high school friends Mark Bishop and Heath Shawn. After a shaky start they acquired Jim Marx as the guitarist and things began to take form with Bishop on bass and Shawn on drums. Vocalist Scott Hillsman was added next, he and Bishop had become friends while they were both serving sentences in a local psyhciatric institute.

Influenced by local bands such as Hoit, Death Row, Schmyzer, Legion of Doom and especially Richmond Virginia legends Graven Image the boys began to practice regularly and ended up opening for Agent Orange at only their second show.

At a time when the majority of the band members were just barely 16 years old they were opening for bands like the Vandals, Battalion of Saints, Tales of Terror and Cause for Alarm at Formerley Dominics in Norfolk Virginia.

Hillsman was like a wild animal onstage an uncontrollable ball of fury and aggression but unfortunately left the band in late 1984 ,Bishop took over vocal duties as they looked for a new singer.
