BIO///
For the past decade, Washington D.C. native Dave Cortex has devoted himself to house music. Upbeat funky, electro, and progressive grooves are his signature sound, which he has presented to the masses by embracing all facets of house music culture. From his highly regarded DJ sets, to his acclaimed efforts as a producer and remixer, to his popular endeavors as an event promoter and more, Dave has proven himself a driving force in today's dance music industry.
DJing since 1999, Dave rose to prominence locally during the early 21st century by hosting some of the city's largest electronic music events under the name DC Skillz Productions, pulling in crowds of thousands. The resulting exposure led to high-profile gigs at some of DC's best clubs, as well as guest spots in NYC, Baltimore, Philadelphia and more. Slowly but surely, he built up a reputation as a respectable DJ, allowing him to share the decks with artists such as BT, Roger Sanchez, DJ Dan, Nick Warren, Josh Wink, Kaskade, Laidback Luke, Hatiras, Donald Glaude, Richard Vission, and many others. In addition, a popular series of locally distributed mix CDs, plus winning several area DJ contests (the 2004 Golden Vinyl awards for best house DJ and the 2005 Buzzlife NYE DJ contest), further solidified Dave Cortex as a staple of DC nightlife.
In 2004, Dave decided to separate himself from the DC Skillz brand (known for promoting all genres of electronic music), in order to focus specifically on his first love - house. To this end, he brought together the city's best house DJs to create the popular website FunkyHouseMusic.com, and also began teaching himself to produce his own house tracks.
By 2006, Dave had confidence in his production skills and began promoting his music via the internet. He quickly gained the attention of fellow producers throughout the globe, and it wasn't long before a variety of labels were signing his tracks and requesting remix work. He also decided to start his own label, Sweet Cherry Music (along with friend and fellow producer David Michael), in order to have both full control over the presentation of his releases, and also as a means of nurturing and supporting like-minded artists.
Now, at the end of 2007, Dave Cortex has truly emerged onto the international scene. His productions have been played and charted by influential DJs throughout the world, with appearances on several compilation CDs. And this is just the beginning - Dave has no plans of slowing down in his never-ending quest to create and promote the music he loves.
