She was a 1986 Chevy 4x4,
350 small block, lifted three feet off the floor
Original red, covered with Bentonite mud; she'd been
Sitting in your parents' driveway for the last seven months.

Friends would come over and you'd all go on outside
Drinking and smoking; talking 'bout that old ride
I thought about how you used to roar up in my drive
I'd hike up my skirt and I'd climb up inside

She was a good truck, we had good times, back in the day
I probably could've taken better care of her, I heard you say

I probably shouldn't have tried to cross that river, on a layer of thin ice
I guess I coulda watched out for those ditches, on many a late night
I probably shoulda kept up with her levels, kept her oiled changed and lubed from time to time
I bet if I'd a rode a little easier on the clutch, she'd still be doing fine

But then you threw your head back and you chugged your beer
And you all stood around and laughed
And it occurred to me right then and there
It wasn't just the Chevy that was stuck

I decided to leave you when I heard you talk about your truck.

She was a good truck, we had good times, back in the day
I probably could've taken better care of her, I heard you say.
